Can past employers get in trouble for keeping you on payroll? l just received info about employee benefits from a company l used to work for, and l believe l made it very clear when l quit that l did not wanna stay on payroll. From what l understood when l worked there my manager makes a bigger bonus at the end of the year with the more people she keeps on payroll and the less hours she uses or something like that. She had a few other people on payroll when l worked there that did not work there anymore but she kept them on there to make her bonus.

You question is unclear. If you work no hours, how are you still ''on payroll''?

Do u mean they're still paying u a salary even though you're not doing any work for them?

If that is not what u mean, then u r using the phrase ''on the payroll'' incorrectly. Being ''on the payroll'' with a company means that they issue u a check every payday. When u quit a company, that in itself usually means u r no longer on their payroll.

l get mail about benefits from a couple of companies l used to work for, every now & then. All it means is that someone in the HR department has not updated their mailing list software yet.

Just send a letter to the HR department of this company and innocently ask why you just received information about employee benefits since you have not worked there since (insert date). This should have some effect on the situation.
