Because their machine prints one automatically, as well as the store is copy within the register. They do not need two, but sometimes people want a receipt, and it is therefore easier to give everyone their receipt and let them decide for themselves, rather than offer no one a receipt and then further delay a transaction by requiring people to ask for one.

You dont have to take it you know. But that reciept is really not for you. You can take it if you want. But, its really for them. Its to keep tally of what they sell per day, week, or month. And also to make sure that cashiers dont cheat the money. So, dont think they are doing it all for you. Like l said, you dont have to take it if you dont want to.

Every business need to have a record of all the transactions. Regardless of how small the item is. And that receipt is given so that if something should happen right away, u have proof that u paid for it. But after u leave the store is cool to throw it in the garbage.

if u were in a store & paid for a soda & walked out without
a receipt & started drinking it & a manager saw u outside
with it but did not see u buy it--and u had no receipt,
you could be held for shoplifting.

That is a crime.

A receipt, is, therefore, for 2 separate things;
inventory control & proof to company owners and
police that u paid for ur item.

Perhaps 10% OF THOSE kids in reform school or
Blacks in jail r there cause they did not keep their
receipt & could not prove they were not shoplifting.
